FAQ - R&R Kayaks

Below are the main questions we get asked about our guided and unguided kayaking tours in the Abel Tasman National Park.

Check in time for all morning tours is at 8.30am. For afternoon tours please check tour description as check in times vary or contact us.


For kayak rentals check in time is at 8.30am (or 10.30am & 12noon subject to availability).

All full day options (guided or rental) return to our base between 4 - 4.30pm. Half day finish times vary so please check tour descriptions or contact us


No previous experience is required for our guided tours. (all our tours are designed for beginners)


For kayak rentals, previous experience is highly recommended.

There is a strict 14+ age limit for all kayak rentals.

We have an age limit of 12+ for our guided tours (under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult on a 1:1 ratio).

Younger child options available, please contact us for options.


Let us know if you require a bus pick up from your location. Transport from Motueka is free and the fee for Nelson pick-ups and drop-offs is $15 per person, each way. Contact us about timetables and locations.

Some guided tours are catered and some have an add on catered option. Check your tour description to find out what’s included. If you have any dietary requirements or would like lunch added to your un-catered tour, please let us know.

We are open from 7.30am until 6.30pm every day except Christmas Day (25 December). Outside of these hours, please call freephone 0508 223 224 and we will be happy to assist you with your enquiries.

Yes we do hire out camping equipment. You can either hire individual items or you can hire a complete set.

No we are closed over the winter months (May - Sept).

You can still email and make booking for summer.

You can leave your vehicle at our base (free) while you are enjoying a tour or rental with us and we have plenty of space for safe storage of your belongings.

We will only cancel a tour if unsafe weather conditions are visible or forecast. In this situation, we will offer you an alternative tour day or we will refund you if an alternative doesn’t suit. Bring a rain jacket and warm layers as tours still operate if it is raining.

A 10% deposit is required upon booking along with credit card details. Remaining balance is paid on the day of your tour. Bookings can be made online, over the phone or in person. We accept Visa, MasterCard or cash payments. Surcharge may apply for credit card payments.
